What is Power Flushing?
Power flushing is the expression used in the heating trade to denote the process by which the radiators, pipe work and sometimes boiler are forcibly cleaned using water at high velocity but at a low pressure, so that no damage to the system occurs.
A machine with a powerful pump is connected to the heating circuit to enable a high flow rate of water into the heating circuit which can effectively purge the system of sludge, scale and other corrosion products.
Once the debris and sludge have been mobilized the power flushing machine pump forcibly expels it from the system using a high velocity of fresh water.
To make the process even more effective chemicals are often added depending on the system type and nature of the problem.
Sludge in your pipe work means less heat in your home
Why do I need a Power Flush?
The problem - black metal oxide sludge (rust) the build up of this sludge in your central heating system over a period of time is inevitable especially if the system water is left untreated of any chemicals such as an inhibitor.
If your central heating exhibits any of the following problems, then a power flush may be required:
- Radiators are cold at the bottom - caused by trapped sludge
- Radiators are cold at the top - caused by trapped gas
- Radiators are cold all over - caused by blocked pipes and valves
- No hot water - caused by blocked pipes and/or heat exchangers
- Boiler cutting in and out - caused by a blocked pump/poor circulation
- Noisy boiler - caused by limescale and/or sludge build-up
By far the greatest risk to an untreated system is boiler failure - an expensive and disruptive occurrence. A improperly or unprotected system with a build up of sludge may suffer boiler noise (thumping, drumming and knocking) due to excessive lime scale or sludge build up.
Eventually the insulating effects of sludge and lime scale will restrict the heat exchanger (the engine of a boiler) to the point where it overheats and fractures.
Sludge will seriously affect the efficiency of a system which will lead to higher fuel bills and premature failure of a boiler and other heating components such as valves and pumps.
The Solution and long term protection use the most proven method to make sure your central heating system is flushed to a standard that exceeds BS7593.
Using the powerful Kamco Clear flow power flushing machine in conjunction with a CombiMag magnetic filter connected to the heating circuit it is possible to eliminate sludge from your central heating circuit and restore heat, efficiency, protection and cut your fuel bills!
Once your system is sludge free we make sure it stays that way by adding a rust inhibitor at the correct dosage to give your system long term protection.
For exceptional ongoing protection we recommend fitting a Fernox TF1 Magnetic Filter to your system once the Power Flush is complete.
